Jacques Cartier

This is a picture of Jacques Cartier. He was a man who had dense beard and curls. In this picture, maybe he was thinking. He was looking for a passage to Asia. He held the globe to find the way.










This is a picture of Jacques Cartier. He looked very tall and strong. He was sailing to find gold in the New World and a passage to the Far East by King Francis 1. He was looking forward the distance in this picture. He was an explorer that led his crew to find the new land.

1.Jacques Cartier was born in St. Malo (France) in 1491.
2.He may have sailed to Newfoundland with a fishing fleet in the early 1500s.
3.His original intent was to search for the Northwest Passage to the Orient.
4.He received a royal commission from the French king "to discover certain islands and lands where had lots of goldsin 1534.
5.He was the first European to map, travel and attempt to establish a settlement in the northern St. Lawrence area.
6.He was sailing down the coast of Newfoundland, discovering the Magdalen and Prince Edward islands after Cabot.
7.He and his crew crossed the Gaspe Peninsula and took possession of it for France before returning home.
8.While the English were concentrating on a northwest passage to Asia, the French King, Francois I commissioned Jacques Cartier to find a way west to the Pacific and claim new lands for France.
9. In 1535, the king sent him out again.
10.Cartier never found the Northwest Passage, but his explorations served as a basis for the French claims in the rich St. Lawrence Valley and led to many future expeditions by France to Canada.

Then he sailed along the West Coast of Newfoundland and reached Cabot Str.On June 26 he reached the Îles de la Madeleine and on June 29 discovered Prince Edward Island.He searched vainly for a passage, entering Baie de Chaleur and Baie de Gaspé and then he sailed N to Île d'Anticosti, thence to Newfoundland, and on Aug 15 headed home, arriving at St-Malo.

If I were First Nations people, my first response must be scared because I have never seen them before. They were strangers to me. I would think if they were aggressors to seize our homeland. I would ask them who they were and why them came here. I would also clump people to prepare to protect our home.

a.In this video, Jacques Cartier went to Canada by his king's order. Then, he arrived here. He and his crew used their knives to exchange furs with the native people. They communicated with them a lot. He built a cross in the native people's land. Then, the chief's 2 sons went to French with Jacques Cartier. They learned a lot and went back.
b.After a long-time sailing, he arrived a new land. He named it Hochelaga. He found there was lots of tobacco. Then, he needed to go back to French because of the frozen rain. Unluckily, they got scurvy, but Donnaconna helped them so that they became better. After such a long-time sailing, he hadn't found anything. He invited Donnaconna to go to French and Donnaconna went. Then, he never went back to India.

Scurvy is caused by a lack of vitamin C, vitamin C deficiency therefore mainly refer to scurvy. However, a lack of vitamin C not only can cause scurvy, but also with inflammation, atherosclerosis, cancer and other disorders related to. At the history of scurvy was a serious threat to human health in a disease.

Donnaconna was the chief of the native people. He was very angry when Jacques Cartier who came from French built a cross on their land. Then he was asked to go to French by Jacques Cartier. Then, he never went back to India.

If I were the Iroquois people, I would feel very angry and had lots of grief.I won't be friendly to the French after this experience. They were barbarians. They were wild to take people from us to their country. I won't greet them with my genuine heart because they were our enemies.
