Exploration Essay

Kitty Wang
Exploration is Important for Countries
____From the ancient times, there have been uncounted people go to explore in the world. Some of them may need to save problems their countries face, some of them may want to find new island or new technologies to develop their countries. There isn't just one way to explore. For example, space, oil and island all have been explored by humans. For this reason, exploration is very important for countries because it can find innovation, communicate different cultures and advance countries' friendships.
____The first of the importance of exploration is it can find innovation for their countries. Innovation is a new idea, method, or invention that can make a country get new technologies to make progress. Finding innovation is good for people's countries. Taking innovation from a place is a good idea of exploration because it can be a way to produce new products for the people to use. For example, John Cabot-a voyager was asked to explore to Asia in the past. He found a new land-"Newfoundland" and took a lot of codfish there to his country. Codfish was new to Cabot and his country, they can eat them and raise them so that they can have enough codfish to eat and sell them to bring money in. It was an outstanding deed of him to find Newfoundland because they can use that land and take matters from it. Thus, finding innovation is good for countries to develop fast.
Communicating different cultures with people is the second major point of the importance of exploration. It's a good way to know more about other countries. Different places have different cultures, such as clothes, languages and customs. ____Communicating with people can make people learn much knowledge and more about other islands. Exploration can do this to make your countries better. For instance, long ago, there was an explorer-Jacques Cartier going to explore. He arrived in Canada and talked with native people. They knew their clothes made from, their languages and their customs. They learned about them a lot so that they found native people's cultures were different from theirs. Cartier used their knives to trade native people's fur. They took dissimilar cultures from native people to their country. A country which has different cultures can become many-faceted. It will be a polyglot country so that people can communicate with each other easily. In short, cultures' communications is a major point for a country's development.
____The last point of exploration's importance is it can advance countries' friendships. Many countries' relations are not good so that they may have wars. Good relationships have benefits in countries' futures. Exploration is an approach to build a harmonious relation between two countries. For example, oil plays an important role in economy, but now many countries lack it. There are many countries sending people to explore for it. If a country finds oil in another country, the latter may will help the former so that the relation between them will be friendly. They can have economic communications and carry on some commercial activities. This can not only develop countries, but also make their friendship better. So, exploration has major effects on countries' friendships and contacts.
____Therefore, exploration plays an important part in countries' advance because it can find innovation, communicate different cultures and accelerate countries' friendships. According to the examples, exploration is really very important for countries. Exploration has done a lot of great feats in the world. It is a good idea to be used for countries' wonderful futures. Actually, exploration is not only significant for countries, but also beneficial for humans and the world. Hence, exploration is so important that can help humans have better lives and live in a better world.

Exploration!

Can you find three different pictures to show how exploration is important for countries? Explain each one carefully in 5-8 sentences. Each picture should show a different perspective on why exploration is important.
This is a picture of an explorer--Jacques Cartier. In the picture, the explorer was talking with the native people with his crew. He sailed for a very long time to find the Asia by the king. He communicated with the native people a lot. They communicated their cultures and also exchanged something with them. He went back to his country with communication. He learned a lot and could use the things that got from the native people to develop his country. They could sell and make money to make their country rich.

This picture shows us a space exploration. To explore the space is always humans' same dream in the world. The Space Exploration let humans achieve their dream and learned more about the space. It made people develop at a very high speed because the technology of science was advanced by this kind of exploration. People know a lot about the space so that we can create a lot of new technologies to make your countries better.

Look at this picture, there were two workers working on the oil exploration. They were working on the machine. The oil is exile in the world now. It is a problem of lacking oil. The oil exploration is very important for not only your country but also the world. The oil is deeply ingrained into our culture as it was the driving force behind industrialization, so we need to explore for the oil. How important the oil is!!!

I knew I need to read poems or articles to answer these questions. I felt tired to read them...From that, I know I must read many poems and articles to prepare for my English 10 provincial exam. Aha..My work will be more and more from now...

Fur Trade

What is the fur trade?

1.student.britannica.com/elementary/art/print?i...

This picture told me about the fur trade. In this picture, the native people were trading fur for supplies at the place called the trading post. The fur trade was one of the earliest and the moat important industries in North America. It was a booming business in North America from the 1500s through the 1800s. The Native Americans used animal furs to exchange for weapons, metal goods and other supplies.

2.www.nfb.ca/collection/films/fiche/?id=18129

This picture showed a lot of furs. Actually, the fur trade was the oldest industry in Canada. The fur trading industry played a major role in the development of the United States and Canada for more than 3oo years. It made money for Canada, but it was bad for animals. They were suffering to be killed.

3. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/02/flying_fur.p

This is a picture of beaver. It was a kind of animals that be traded by Canadians. Europeans traded beaver fur to make pelt hats became the most valuable of these furs. The fur trade prospered until the mid-1800's,when fur-bearing animals became scarce and silk hats became more popular than pelt hats made with beaver. Today, almost all trappers sell their pelts.

4.www.mcq.org/code/en/objects/furs-18.html
This is a picture of fur trade. In this picture, some animals' furs are here. It made me uncomfortable. It was very wild and cruel to kill them. The fur trade is a bloody business. It killed many lives of animals. This is bad for humans to live.

5.cat-chitchat.pictures-of-cats.org/2008/03/cat...

This picture shows me a store of fur trade. There are many carcasses be sent. The furs are beautiful, but they always make me think of the blood. It may kill so many animals to get these furs. How aggressive the people were!

During this week..ah..

During this week, I learned lots of knowledge about Literary Terms ,such as irony, simile, metaphor and so on. I learned so many words that I had never seen, such as the simile is an analogy to use the words "like" or "as". For example,"She is as white as snow." This is an example for simile. I am glad to get knowledge, but it was also busy learning and doing homework. Yes, there was a lot of homework I need to do in this week. I always felt tired so that I slept at first when I arrived home sometimes.I always worked on my Literary Essay. I wrote literary paragraphs, I wrote the introduction, I wrote the conclusion. To be honest, I don't like writing essays at all, but I needed to write. I always said"Oh,My God" when I couldn't think of what to write...Will God come to save me..I hope so!!aha..Though it was very very very busy, I spent my time learning. I didn't feel idle because I studied.^^

Literary Essay

Bravery had been shown all the time from ancient times to the present. There are so many brave people that can't be counted in the world. What kind of people can be brave people? For example, Washington--the first president of America led people to become independent of English colonialists' domination. His heroism was venerated by people as a warrior who was brave enough to rebel for saving people from abyss of suffering. Actually, brave people are not only national heroes or great men. It can be common people. In both "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and "The Sniper", each of the two characters -- Sir Gawain and the sniper played an important part in presenting their courage. Consequently, to be brave can't be spoken randomly, it was showed by characters who used their own words.

In this story of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", King Arthur is a brave character who steps forward bravely by upholding as a king and defending his knights from the Green Knight. King Arthur is one of the protagonists who shows his courage when he safeguarded his dignity as a supreme king. For instance, when the Green Knight appeared surprisingly with an axe, he asked who was King Arthur. "He stood up and said ' I am Arthur'". Hence, he was courageous because he answered without hesitation. To be a sovereign, his heart flowed the spirit of a hero.It was his instinct to step forward. King Arthur didn't fear the conflict that was made by the Green Knight. When the Green Knight petrified everybody, King Arthur still remained calm. He just stood up without panic and replied to the Green Knight. His brief but forceful words showed the reader his bravery. Otherwise, he was brave to face Green Knight to stick up for his knights. In other words, he stood up to defend his knight from the Green Knight by saying "what you asked for makes no sense. You asked your own death" when the Green Knight jeered at his knights that they were cowards. Thus, the knights represented their country, so King Arthur couldn't bear the Green Knight laughing at his knights in his domain. As the king of his country, he had responsibility and authority to protect everything in his area. So he upheld his knights and his country's dignities heroically. To summarize, being brave is a trait of King Arthur. He is a rational king to face the Green Knight's provocation and shows bravery when safeguarding his knights in this story.

In the story of "The Sniper'--which was told from a third-person limited omniscient point of view, the sniper is a character who showed his bravery fully. He could think with a calm mind in dangerous situation and could find an idea to resist his enemy. The Republican Sniper is the protagonist who was brave to think as usual when he was wounded. For example,"he broke the neck of the iodine bottle and let the bitter fluid drip into the wound" when he was hit. Therefore, he was courageous because he dealt with his wound at first, not be alarmed to do noting when he was hit by his enemy. He knew what should he do and kept a sober mind at that time. Though he was wounded, he didn't have any fear of that situation. He was calm and represented his bravery in the face of danger by the author's writing. In addition, he showed his courage when he was in a dangerous position so that he could be found and killed by his enemy at any time. In essence, "he thought of a plan" to kill his enemy though he was in a nervous position. Accordingly, it means that the sniper could come up with a ruse to beat his antagonist in this game of life and death. He wasn't afraid of danger and never gave up living. He had the nerve to face danger even when he would be discovered if he didn't take care. As a result, it was bold of the sniper to take a risk of tricking his enemy by is cap. This brave act of him really represented his courage. To summarize, bravery is a character of the sniper, he is a person who can be calm and think carefully in danger by being brave to think of a plan to kill his enemy.

Though Sir Gawain and the sniper were in different situations, each of them had a brave heart to face and vanquish difficulties and danger. It could change their lives because of bravery--Sir Gawain became the bravest knight in the world, the sniper killed his enemy and lived. Being brave is a character for everyone. For example, Sichuan Province which is in China had a destructive earthquake, it damaged many buildings and killed many people. People who lived in Sichuan Province didn't despair and still had courage to face death. They loved their lives and tried to live.Totally, people need to have bravery to face dangers and handicap so that humans will live better lives in the world.
